News : Roath Folk Festival 2019Posted : 10th December 2018
The Gate in Cardiff has recently hosted a series of finely curated folk nights in its atmospheric performance space, and is now extending the format to create a new folk festival, with the inaugural event a full day in March 2019 featuring a well-balanced bill of exceptional folk artists.
The festival will be headlined by The Gentle Good, the singer-songwriter Gareth Bonello, who won the 2017 Welsh Music Prize for his sublimely crafted last album, Ruins / Adfeilion. He will be joined by the compelling guitarist Nick Harper, Bristol's mesmerising instrumentalists Three Cane Whale and Ivan Moult, a Cardiff-based singer with a contemporary folk sound that has a clear heritage back to the work of John Martyn and Nick Drake.
The programme is completed by Wales' sublime chamber-folk trio, VRï, James Bower and Colum Regan. The night will end with the promise of a final burst of Celtic energy in the form of a ceilidh led by The Backroom Band.
Roath Folk Festival will take place at The Gate, Cardiff at 1.00pm on Saturday 2nd March - Early Bird Tickets are available for £19
